The always buisness-savvy Shawn Carter aka Jay-Z has pinned another major deal as he has signed a multi-year contract for his Rocafella label. This means that Jay will not only release hiw own upcoming albums via Universal, but moreover that some of Rocafella's other major artists such as Rihanna will do so as well!


Jay-Z explained this move by saying that Rocafella will “continue to operate as an independent label with the strength, power and reach of the best major.” For him as a solo artist it's a return to the label where he has already released music from 2004-2007 and I am sure that his time as a president of Universal's Island Def Jam Music Group didn't hurt the deal either. Knowing Jay-Z though, Universal must have put down quite some money for the deal!

In other Shawn Carter-related business news, the man has also just launched his own sports agency Roc Nation Sports, that is supposed to manage athletes from different sports such as Robinson Cano, who is currently playing second baseman for none other than the New York Yankees!
