Minnie Mouse the Fashionista - How Disney connects with the Fashion World

8:56 AM

Lately, it looks like Disney has increased it's marketing efforts to get a little more trendy and fashionable. Starting with a New Era basecap collaboration it is now targeting the High-Fashion sector with some great video spots. During last year's Christmas time, some of their famous characters were given the Fashionista-makeover by slimming down the silhouettes and by letting them wear some of the hottest brands right now like Balenciaga or Givenchy.

The star of the Disney ensemble is definately Minnie Mouse who has proven to be on point when  it comes to fashion for years. Rei Kawakubo would definately approve her trendy yet classy polkadot dress and Marc Jacobs might have even been inspired by her hair-bow a fews seasons ago!

In the Christmas spot she is seen walking around  Paris during Fashion Week, bumping into numerous celebrities from the fashion world such as Naomi Campbell, Daphne Guiness, Bryan Boy or even Lady Gaga. After visiting all of the citie's places-to-be like the Jardin des Tuileries where she gets her pictures taken for some of the most important streetwear blogs, she actually walks the runway amongst some of her Disney peers like Goofy or Snow White.

In the end our little Fashionista wakes up from her little daydream, but actually gets her favorite Lanvin dress as a present from Mickey Mouse.

Of course the spot was a sureshot and became famous over night. I mean, who doesn't have a connection to the good old Disney characters and their typical look. They were a big part of our childhood and a linking to the captivating fashion world seems to carry on the fascination for an older clientele.

This week, the Disney brand has released another video of Minnie Mouse getting dressed up in Lanvin. However, this time we don't see Minnie as a drawn cartoon but as costume from the popular Disney Land theme parcs that are making kids happy and parents broke all over the world.

The collaborative effort with Lanvin's designer Alber Elbaz makes perfect sense as his aesthetic fits perfectly to he Disney look. If you think about his appearance actually looks a little similar to some of the comic characters, which I mean as a big compliment!

The charming designer helps Minnie Mouse to dress up in a custom-made dress that suits her perfectly and takes her look to another level. Elbaz also analyses her style and explains his idea behind the dress.

I think that this video is a great follow up to the Barney's campaign, particularly since it presents Minnie Mouse in her typical shape which is a little more volumptuous than it was in the Barney's campaign ( a fact that caused a tiny shitstorm on the Internet).

Let's hope that Minnie's forray into the fashion world will see many other projects in the future!
